  • Does he really need an introduction? South Philadelphia's Bobby Rydell (born Robert Ridarelli) catapulted to international fame with hits like Volare, Wild One and Wildwood Days. He starred in the film "Bye Bye Birdie" with Ann-Margret, and now tours with local singing idols Fabian and Frankie Avalon.

  • Famed South Philadelphia singer Al Martino (left) is also celebrated for his stand-out role in "The Godfather".   Teen idol (and now singer/actor) Fabian found fame after appearing on "American Bandstand".  He frequently performs with Bobby Rydell and Frankie Avalon.

  • Len Barry, former lead singer of the Dovells, is known for hits like the "Bristol Stomp" and "1-2-3".   South Phila.’s Buddy Greco is at right, with two fellow natives – singer Palma Jo Solari and comedian Guy Marks – at center.

  • South Philadelphia's Fisher and Marks comedy duo first teamed up in 1948 at the Latin Casino, then located in Center City. Singer and dancer Al Fisher (born Albert Fichera, left) was the semi-straight man to partner Lou Marks (born Louis Franco) for almost 40 years.

  • South Philadelphia comedian, singer and dancer Phil Jaye (born Philip Patelmo) grew up near 11th and Wharton Streets and was known for the song "Rag Mop" as one of the Jaye Brothers.

  • The South Philadelphia comedy duo known as the Day Brothers included Tommy (left) and Donny Day (center) -- a.k.a. Thomas and Domenick DeGaetano. South Philadelphia'a Joey "Junior" Pirollo (right) is the lead singer for the Four J's and led the Fabulous Four, Fabian's back-up band.

  • Philadelphia native Bob London (born Bernard Greenberg, left) sang at area nightclubs and resorts, and was the popular singing emcee at Palumbo's.  South Philadelphia's Carmen Dee led Palumbo's band for 35 years and still tours the tri-state area with his orchestra.

  • Comedian Jimmy Durante wasn't a Philadelphia native, but he performed so often and was so beloved at area clubs, that he qualifies for a 'local son' title.  Palumbo's band leader Carmen Dee loved performing with him.

  • South Philadelphia comedian and musician Cozy Morley (left) owned North Wildwood's always packed Club Avalon.  Singer Al Alberts rose to fame as lead singer of the Four Aces, and hosted TV's "Al Alberts Showcase" for over 30 years.
